THE DISTRICT BYU
Backyard Ultra
UNDISCLOSED LAKE DISTRICT LOCATION
3rd October 2026

Welcome to The District BYU.
A Heart and Soul Racing Backyard Ultra set in an undisclosed Lake District location, with open views, rolling trails, huge skies, and a course built to keep you coming back for one more.

This is a Backyard Ultra with a different feel.

Big landscapes. Mountain backdrops. Open countryside. A stunning trail loop in the shadow of the Lakes that gives you everything you want from a proper outdoor ultra, without losing that raw, grassroots feel that makes a BYU so special.

And when the miles start to stack up, expect plenty of Heart and Soul flavour too. We’re leaning into the country theme on this one. Think boots, barns, cowboys, good music, and that all-day atmosphere from the yard right through to the final few standing.

But make no mistake, this is still a proper BYU.
Simple format. Brutal in its own way. No hiding. No pacing to a finish line. Just one yard every hour until there is only one left.

There can be one winner. Whatever your goal.

Whether you are chasing the win, chasing a PB distance, stepping up to your first Backyard Ultra, or just want to see what you are capable of, The District is built for that. It is as much about the experience as it is the result.

The format
One loop. One hour. Every hour.
Complete the yard before the clock hits the top of the hour and you go again.
Fail to complete the loop in time and your race is over.
Last person to complete a solo yard is the winner.

The course
The course will be set to the exact Backyard Ultra format distance of 4.167 miles / 6.706km per yard.

Expect a runnable trail loop with wide open views, proper countryside character, and the kind of backdrop that only the Lake District can give. As you would expect from this setting, the terrain will be undulating, with enough variation to keep it honest from the first yard to the last.

Full race details and final event information will be sent out to all entrants closer to the event.

Entry offers
We want to reward proven Backyard Ultra performances.

Any athlete who has won a Backyard Ultra in the last 2 years can claim a free entry to The District BYU.

We will also be offering discounted entry for athletes who have achieved major BYU performances.

Athletes who have completed 30+ yards at a Backyard Ultra can claim 50% off entry.

Please select the relevant ticket option when entering. We reserve the right to verify results.

What to expect
A proper Heart and Soul Racing atmosphere
A beautiful Backyard Ultra course in a stunning setting
Country-themed race vibe with music, energy and character
A supportive yard for runners, crews and spectators
The usual BYU suffering, drama and magic as the field starts to thin

This is not just another event.
It is a full experience.

If LSD is rave barn chaos, The District is its country cousin. Same Heart and Soul energy. Different soundtrack. Same rule though.

Go round again.

Who is it for?
Everyone.

If you are brand new to Backyard Ultras, this is a brilliant place to start.
If you are experienced and want a beautiful course with a serious edge, this is for you too.
If you want a race that feels competitive, welcoming, scenic and memorable all at once, you are in the right place.

Why The District?
Because some events are about split times and medals.
This one is about the yard, the people, the place, and seeing what happens when you strip it all back to one loop, one hour, one more go.

And doing it in one of the most stunning settings we’ve ever used.

Camping, crew and event support
Camping is free for all athletes and crew as part of your entry.

If you would like to bring an additional tent, or plan to camp on the Friday night as well, please make sure you select the relevant camping add-on when entering.

If you are planning to stay in a camper van or motorhome, please also select the camper van ticket so we can manage space on site properly.

This is a self-supported event. We will provide an aid station with water and basic supplies, but you should come prepared to look after yourself between yards.

As this is a remote outdoor setting, please plan properly for power, lighting, charging banks, shelter, warm kit and your full race setup. Bring your gazebo, chairs, kit boxes and anything else you need to build your base.

Each competitor will have a 3m x 3m pitch to set up their own space.

Full race pack information will be sent out prior to the event.

Restricted numbers.
One yard at a time.
